Christmas greetings to all the members of the VMNC. The VMNC WINE CLUB is winding down operations for 2019 year. We have had 10 members in the club over the past year.
Some have made one batch (30 bottles) while the others have made several batches and shared the various wines with each other. The true diehards have shared 3 batches of wine while enjoying cheese and crackers while bottling their favorite wine.
For the new members of the VMNC and the old members that forgot why we started the WINE CLUB, here is a rundown of why we started the club. Before we get into details, you have to understand the concept of home brewing, but in our case store brewing or U-brew. When a person U-brews, they purchase a wine kit and have it brewed on premise in the store. When it is finished, you bottle approximately 30 bottles of one kind of wine, Merlot, Shiraz or Pinot Grigio. If you want a larger selection, you would make 30 bottles of each kind. That can present a storage problem, especially if you live in an apartment or condo. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could make 5 to 10 bottles of each kind of wine that you like? So, the WINE CLUB to the rescue.
Since I joined the VMNC in 2015/16, I met several individuals that were interested in making wine (home brew or in store brewing) but ran into the issue I mentioned above. STORAGE, or lack of it. The WINE CLUB allows you to make the wines you enjoy without having to store 30 bottles of each kind. We make the wine and break into smaller groups and share, depending on the number in each group, 5 to 10 bottles of different wines. The group makes only HIGH END WINES which may require storage for several months before consumption. If you ask our members, they will say the wait is well worth it.
The current members have been informed that our Ubrew, WineKitz, Admirals Walk, is closing its doors effective Dec 21/19 and we will need to source a different location to make our wine. I have been doing some scouting and will make some recommendations in the new year. We have some very interesting prospects. It appears our business (VMNC WINE CLUB) is wanted. I will have more information for the members when the WINE CLUB resumes operations in Jan or Feb of 2020.
I would like to schedule a meeting immediately after the Cedar Hill Luncheon meeting on Jan 9, 2020. I hope this date is agreeable to the current WINE CLUB members, if not, please let me know. This meeting is open to all members of the VMNC. If you would like additional information, please contact me at [email protected] or by phone at 250-516-6192.
Thanks to all our members for participating.
